World Heritage Sites

World Heritage Mission Statement

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) seeks to encourage the identification, protection and preservation of cultural and natural heritage around the world considered to be of outstanding value to humanity.

The list is now over 1,000 sites.  As a traveler, I would love to see every single one of them.  They represent the best of man and the best of nature.  I don't know how many I'll visit in my lifetime, but the list below are ones I have blogged about.   The dates in parentheses are the years they were added to the UNESCO list.  Every time I plan a trip abroad, I check to see if I will be near one of these incredible places.  They never fail to disappoint me.  The World Heritage Sites have become highlights in my world travels.   Enjoy!
