The Felton Covered Bridge

A covered bridge in California?  Are you kidding me?  I knew these romantic wooden bridges dotted the landscape of New England, especially in Vermont, but in California?

I've since learned that this bridge in Felton, California, is one of several covered bridges in this golden state of ours.  Imagine that!  It is a beauty and therefore, on the California Registered Historical Landmark list.  It was built in 1892 and is believed to be the tallest covered bridge in the United States.  Back then, it stood as a handsome entrance to the town of Felton.  It was closed to vehicle traffic in 1937, but has remained a pedestrian bridge ever since.

Of course, now I want to see them all.  Most of them are located in Northern California where wood is plentiful.  And then . . . okay, what the heck . . .on to New England!!!
